Jean Tirole: Economics for the Common Good

On 5 October 2018, the French economist and Nobel Laureate in Economics, Jean Tirole, visited University of Copenhagen in connection with the international workshop, Frontiers in Climate Change Economics, arranged by Department of Economics and Department of Food and Resource Economics. As an offshoot a public event, Economics for the Common Good, took place October 5, 2018, in Chr. Hansen Aud., CSS, where Professor Rick van der Ploeg, Oxford University, chaired a dialogue between Tirole and the audience. Video from the event.

Why Do We Ignore Risk in Power Economics?

Sean Meyn, Director of the Florida Institute for Sustainable Energy, provided an entertaining overview of the origins of U.S. power markets, and how federal agencies are attempting to right the wrongs. Meyn challenged the audience with a quiz on the “value of power” and highlighted exciting possibilities with better public policy for the creation of responsive and reliable resources. This could help manage a grid with significant renewable energy integration. The lecture took place on November 25th 2014.
