Penan-folket er truet på deres eksistens af en ubønhørlig tømmerindustri, som ødelægger regnskoven, og af kristne missionærer, som gør, hvad de kan for at penanerne skal opgive deres traditionelle levemåde.
I foredraget, som stammer fra Humaniorafestival 2007, fortæller lektor Mikael Rothstein om penanernes liv, deres myter og ritualer, deres liv i skoven og om deres forhold til dyr og planter.

Foredraget ledsages af film og billeder fra to ekspeditioner ind i regnskoven i 2005 og 2007.

This AMIS Roundtable will discuss the dramatic events characterizing Europe’s current response to refugees. Recently, the UNHCR warned of the existence of a record-breaking 60 million refugees globally. The war in Syria, ISIS in Iraq, and the collapse of the Libyan state have meant a large increase of asylum seekers.

The response has been tighter border control, deterrence measures and combatting smugglers. But while fences and Frontex operations are politically salient, comparatively little political good-will has followed the EU Commission’s proposal to resettle asylum seekers or the UNHCR’s call to increase the relocation of refugees.

“THE WOODEN WALL” – an echo through time

The Zea Harbour Project & ITMEDIA is proud to present the teaser for the short movie “The Wooden Wall”. The full movie is part of the exhibition “Piraeus – the Port of Triremes” at the Hellenic Maritime Museum (Ναυτικό Μουσείο της Ελλάδος), and focuses on Piraeus’ important role in ancient history.

The exhibition is co-organised by the Hellenic Maritime Museum and the Zea Harbour Project, and is a part of European Maritime Day Piraeus 2015.
